Exploring Adaptive Leadership in DEI Work at CWDS’ 4th Anti-Racism Summit

The Child Welfare Development Services (CWDS) program is hosting its fourth annual Anti-Racism Summit Series and will be joined by public child welfare agencies from the Southern California region. The third session of the four-part Anti-Racism Summit series is scheduled for March 26, 2024.

In the first two summit sessions, learners explored the history and roots of racism in child welfare, as well as their individual roles, accountability, and responsibility in moving through anti-racism work in their organizations.

The third session will focus on adaptive leadership within the context of facing resistance to anti-racism work as part of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts in human service organizations. Through personal storytelling and interactive elements, participants will be connected to the processes of learning and unlearning.

The session emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and emotional awareness when faced with resistance to anti-racism work, drawing on leadership experiences in various roles. It will include a live and authentic discussion between the Leadership Team (LT) members at the Academy for Professional Excellence in which panel members will share insights that are designed to model vulnerability while hearing individual lessons learned from the members of LT and their contributions to our organizational DEI journey centered around collective responsibility and growth.
