CWDS Assistant Training Coordinator (Special Initiatives)
Carl Deertz Jr. earned his Master of Social Work degree from SDSU in 2012 with a concentration in Administration and Community Development. Carl joined the Academy in August of 2016 as a Training Assistant for the Public Child Welfare Training Academy.
Prior to Carl joining the Academy he has had a variety of experience working with youth. Carl has been a Teaching Assistant to help underserved youth/foster youth gain access to college. He also has been a one on one foster youth mentor meeting with his mentee once a week for over two years. Carl’s graduate internship was at an after-school program which provided educational and recreational opportunities for children at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. After his graduate internship he became a Lead Inclusion Aide working with Inclusion Aides in different schools to help students with social/emotional behavioral challenges remain in their after-school programs.
Carl is excited to be a Training Assistant for PCWTA and help contribute to improving outcomes for children and families in the child welfare system.
