Trainer Biography

Tonya Octave, LCSW

Tonya Octave currently holds a Master’s Degree in the field of social work from California State University, Long Beach. In Los Angeles County she oversees mental health services for children under the supervision of Children Services and Probation. Additionally, she provides consultation services to Children Services and the Department of Mental Health. Ms. Octave in collaboration with other team members organized and developed a pilot to address Commercial Sexual Exploitation among youth who are victimized.  As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she owns and operates a private practice. This affords her the opportunity to see children, adults, and families who are exposed to trauma related events.

Through this reciprocal and collaborative exchange, clients determine their areas of needed improvement. Ms. Octave incorporates evidence based, non- traditional treatment modalities, and/or coaching techniques to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Ms. Octave provides specialized trainings and workshops in the field of coaching, mental health issues, child abuse/ neglect investigations, working with high risk individuals, and human trafficking. Ms. Octave is also a faculty member for the University of Phoenix.

As an energetic instructor, she enjoys every opportunity of learning and teaching others. This allows her to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in her primary areas of interest, which include: trauma, secondary trauma, sexual abuse, domestic minor sex trafficking, substance abuse & use issues, domestic violence, child abuse & neglect, multicultural related concerns with different populations, changing family dynamics, and grief and loss issues.

Lastly, Ms. Octave believes in her personal journey of growth, and searches for every opportunity to integrate her life, work, training and educational experiences to pursue her lifelong career goals. She is passionate and dedicated to working with students in this reciprocal exchange of mutual learning but also assisting them in their personal and professional growth.
