Kinship Care: Benefits and Challenges eLearning

Intended Audience: Child welfare staff and other disciplines that work with children
who have been placed in out-of-home care, and their families

Description of Course: This is an interactive eLearning course that provides information about the benefits and challenges of kinship care, the clinical issues experienced by children in kinship care as well as their parents and caregivers. You will hear from kinship caregivers about their experiences and will be provided with resources to support them.

Intended Objectives:

  • Apply the federal laws associated with kinship care
  • Identify characteristics of kinship care
  • Identify the benefits of kinship care
  • Identify the challenges of kinship care
  • Identify good case planning practices with kinship caregivers
  • Value the impact of how kinship care impacts family dynamics
