Child Welfare Development Services (CWDS) has been working closely with San Diego Child Welfare Services and their University partners to strengthen the continuum of workforce development – from social work students to agency employees.
CWDS formed a Workforce Development and Retention Workgroup which includes the County’s training and staff development leaders, Child Welfare Director, Academy County Consultant, and representatives from local University Schools of Social Work. The program developed a charter for the group, identified four focus areas to address, and have developed action plans for each area. The four priority areas include:
- Workforce Development in a virtual environment and beyond
- Supporting anti-racism, equity & inclusion efforts through workforce development
- Enhancing screening and recruitment strategies
- Building organizational commitment and community
The workgroup is ongoing and will continue to meet each quarter. The team established subcommittees for each of the four priority areas that are meeting on their own to advance efforts in their designated area in between each quarterly meeting.
