Comprehensive, Culturally Approriate, and Competency-Based Workforce Development.

Discussion with Dawn, Summer 2022

Academy Partners,

Our CWDS team recently held our annual year end celebration which allowed us to recognize our impact, accomplishments and resilience over the past year. I wanted to share an overview of what you helped our team accomplish this past fiscal year.

We delivered:

  • 916 days of training/classes
  • 19 Line Worker Cores
  • 1,375 days of coaching
  • 36 Cultural Responsiveness Academy (CRA) classes
  • 6 days of CRA simulations
  • 24 CRA coaching days
  • We onboarded 26 new facilitators to build capacity for service provision
  • We served in total 44,912 participants
  • We delivered on average 11 workforce development events per working day

This is a significant amount of support that we provided to the Southern region to help develop timely and necessary skills in our child welfare workforce. We could not have done it without you all!

In July we resumed our in-person services. We are still providing some virtual coaching and training when it makes sense to use this modality, however our most of our line worker cores, simulation and coaching have all started to come back in person. A significant amount of planning went into preparing for this and our first few weeks have been very successful. After being fully virtual for two and a half years, we are finding that with good communication we are able to support our learners, facilitators and staff in successfully holding services in person. Thank you for your partnership in making this happen. Many of our learners and leaders have been eager to have in-person opportunities like this again.

Some of our team members collaborated with other statewide partners to plan and facilitate a Core Practice Model (CPM) Directors Institute for Child Welfare Directors across the state several weeks ago. Our leaders engaged in planning what should come next to help our child welfare agencies integrate the values and behaviors of the CPM into their daily work. We are building upon this event and will be holding some regional offerings to convene the leadership teams of our Southern counties and expand our implementation efforts throughout the workforce. If you are interested in learning more about the CPM, you can review the materials located on CalSWEC’s website

As always, thank you for your partnership!
