California Statewide Core Curriculum Updates, Summer 2022

Common Core 3.5 (New Child Welfare Social Work Required Training)

Several Courses in the statewide Core 3.5 curriculum are currently undergoing the review and revision process at the state level.  Courses that have been revised are listed below. All Core 3.5 course materials and updates are available in the statewide California Child Welfare Training (CACWT) system as all state standardized courses are delivered via CACWT. CalSWEC is the entity that uploads and manages all Core 3.5 content in the CACWT system.  If you have feedback and/or information to share about Core 3.5 Curriculum please submit your feedback to CalSWEC via the Core 3.5 Feedback Form.

  • ICWA and Working with Native American Families and Tribes – minor revisions were done to this course and all revised materials have been uploaded into CACWT.
  • Legal Procedures and Responsibilities – recently revised in collaboration with CDOG and all revised materials are uploaded into CACWT
  • State and Federal Laws eLearning – minor revisions and updates to the slides and transcript. The new SCORM package is uploaded.

Note: Revisions may have been made to the Trainer’s Guide (with embedded Virtual Guide), Trainee’s Guide, and/or PPT. Please review the Version Change Doc (VCD) for the course in CACWT for more details.

The Make-Up Matrix from Core 3.0- Core 3.5 has also been finalized and is available for use.

Supervisor Core    (Child Welfare Supervisor Required Training)

The revised version of the Supervisor Core curriculum was implemented in December 2021 and the curriculum is currently under review for updates and revisions at the state level.  Revisions are currently being made to accommodate the revised post-test administration. Starting in January 2023, the post-test will be administered in 15-minute increments on Days 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10, using questions related to the content being delivered on those days, respectively, instead of a single, full post-test administered at the end of Day 10.  Administration of the 60-minute pre-test will remain as is at the start of Day 1. This plan was approved by the Evaluation Development and Implementation Teams and endorsed by CDSS.

To facilitate the statewide Supervisor Core series, trainers must meet these Statewide Supervisor Core Trainer Qualifications and Requirements.

CACWT Resource Available: The state has developed this CACWT Manual for all CACWT users. This resource provides information on technical assistance and all things related to the CACWT system.

For more information about curriculum and training requests with CWDS, please go to CWDS Curriculum and Training Request Page.  CWDS continues to develop curriculum for e-learnings, micro-learnings, simulations, etc. for counties and the region as needed and/or as per request.  Please note that any curriculum developed for CWDS must be approved by CDSS and meet ADA compliance standards.

If you have any question about the information above regarding statewide curriculums listed, please contact ashackelford@sdsu.edu or (619) 594-3296.
