California Statewide Core Curriculum Updates

Common Core 3.5 (New Child Welfare Social Work Required Training)

The statewide Core 3.5 curriculum has been being trained to new child welfare staff  throughout the state since the beginning of the 2021/2022 fiscal.  All Core 3.5 course materials and updates are available in the statewide California Child Welfare Training (CACWT) system as all courses are delivered via CACWT. CalSWEC is the entity that uploads and manages all Core 3.5 content in the CACWT system.  If you have feedback and/or information to share about Core 3.5 Curriculum that is not time sensitive (ex: does not affect child safety, legislation, or the functioning of the training) please submit your feedback to CalSWEC via the Core 3.5 Feedback Form.

The state (CALSWEC/CDSS) requires that any newly hired/on-boarded facilitators who are interested in and scheduled to train Core 3.5 content will be mandated to complete the Instructor-Led Skills-Based Training for Trainers as well as a series of webinars.  The state is also in the process of developing and finalizing a Statewide Trainer Qualifications list for Core 3.5 and all other state standardized and/or state mandated courses. Also. Current Core 3.5 Facilitators are encouraged (but not required) to review the CC 3.5 Overview Training for

Trainer’s Webinar, which provides information about the curriculum revision and strategies for delivery of Core 3.5 content, is also available in CACWT and trainers with a CACWT account can enroll and complete the course at any time.

A Make-Up Matrix from Core 3.0- Core 3.5 has recently been finalized and will be available for use as of July 1, 2022.

Supervisor Core  (Child Welfare Supervisor Required Training)

The revised version of the Supervisor Core curriculum was implemented in December 2021. To facilitate the statewide Supervisor Core series, trainers must meet the Statewide Supervisor Core Trainer Qualifications and Requirements.  CALSWEC has also developed a 2-day Supervisor Core Overview (T4T) curriculum for RTA’s to utilize to build capacity to supervisor Core training deliveries.  RTA’s will schedule deliverables of this course as needed.  Also, the Virtual Overview of Supervisor Core revisions which was designed for existing Supervisor Core facilitators has been updated and includes 10 individual video segments as a self-paced, self-enrolling eLearning course. The ten video recordings are available on CACWT and are titled “Supervisor Core – 2020 T4T – CalSWEC – Self Paced – 0101-0630”.  Lastly, please be advised that CWDS typically provides 2  deliveries of the statewide Supervisor Core series per fiscal year and all 10 days of training is delivered by the same co-trainers (this may be different from the delivery schedule of other RTAs).

For more information about curriculum and training requests with CWDS, please go to CWDS Curriculum and Training Request Page.  Also, please note that CWDS continues to develop curriculum for e-learnings, micro-learnings, simulations, etc. for counties and the region as needed and/or as per request.  Please note that any curriculum developed for CWDS must be approved by CDSS and meet ADA compliance standards.

If you have any question about the information above regarding statewide curriculums listed, please contact ashackelford@sdsu.edu or (619) 594-3296.
