Intended Audience: New and current child welfare personnel wanting to enhance their ability to provide effective crisis intervention to adolescents in trouble

Intended Objectives:

• Identify the stressors affecting adolescents in care.
• Examine how thoughts and perceptions influence behaviors
• Discuss the concepts of irrational beliefs and defense mechanisms
• Present the dynamics of the Conflict cycle paradigm
• Identify the four choices in handling adolescent behavior
• Practice specific talking strategies to de-escalate crisis events and help youth gain insight into their self-defeating pattern of behaving
