Karissa Hughes is a Research Specialist & SACHS Coordinator within the Strategy & Outcomes Division at the Academy for Professional Excellence. Within this role, she leads research efforts to further inform Academy strategic planning and change management efforts. Karissa also researches various health and human services and workforce development-related topics for Academy programs. In addition, Karissa works with the Southern Area Consortium of Human Services (SACHS)/Leaders in Action (LIA) Program Manager to support the administration and coordination of the SACHS program.
Karissa received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology for Sonoma State University. Following this, she received her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree with an administrative concentration from San Diego State University (SDSU). Before joining the Academy in 2006, Karissa worked for programs serving older adults, children, and mothers with substance use disorders, as well as performed outreach, community organizing, and service-learning efforts supporting K-16 education systems.
