Trainer Biography

Lucas Zullo, Ph.D.

Lucas Zullo, Ph.D. (pronouns: he/him/his) obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Over the past decade, he has traveled across the country to work with the nation’s scientific leaders in suicide prevention and has also trained at the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center and Drexel University. He has extensive experience working with suicidal youth and their families in a variety of settings, including intensive outpatient, inpatient, consult liaison, and the emergency department.

Dr. Zullo is currently the Project Director of a $13M PCORI-funded multisite clinical trial spanning five diverse emergency departments across the United States. He is also the Training Director and Attending Psychologist at UCLA’s Youth Stress and Mood Program which delivers care to depressed and suicidal youth, where he supervises and trains psychology externs, interns, and psychiatry fellows as they provide evidence-based care. Over the past several years he has trained hundreds of providers in trauma-informed evidence-based approaches for youth suicide prevention through the National Child Traumatic Stress Network as a trainer part of the UCLA-Duke ASAP Center. Dr. Zullo is passionate about implementing the use of evidence-based approaches to suicide prevention (i.e. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) among historically underserved youth, with a specific interest in LGBTQ+ youth. Dr. Zullo’s research reflects his clinical interests and he is currently a NIMH Diversity Fellow.
