Latanya West, M.S.

Latanya West is passionate about utilizing her background in the arts and K-12 education to help change agents fulfill their mission to uplift at-risk youth. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in Social Science, Ms. West served urban youth for thirteen years as an elementary and middle school educator. After earning a Masters in Elementary Education from Nova Southeastern University, she utilized her teaching expertise as a curriculum consultant with McGraw-Hill Education. As a consultant, Latanya designed and presented sales presentations, district wide in-service curriculum trainings, and educational workshops to teachers and school administrators across California.

Latanya began her professional career in the entertainment industry, contributing PR and marketing to national media campaigns for NBC, KNBC and the NAACP Image Awards. She spent four years acting in professional theater productions and served a memorable stint as an assistant talent coordinator for the Tonight Show.

In 2012, she returned to her media roots and established a commercial copywriting business. She’s contributed marketing copy, fundraising copy, and business writing workshops to organizations in the areas of youth workforce development, reentry and juvenile crime prevention, community outreach, and educational publishing.

Latanya’s grant writing has successfully aided nonprofits like Youth Treatment and Education Center (YTEC) and the San Diego Training Center with several multi-year awards. She recently developed and implemented a business-writing workshop for San Francisco’s Department of Children, Youth & Their Families (DCYF) and continues to coach DCYF clients in business writing fundamentals.
