Involuntary Case Planning – Spectrum Version

Definition of Spectrum of Learning: The Academy for Professional Excellence, has developed a training model, “Spectrum of Learning”, that is designed to provide skills and resources that address the training needs of today’s APS worker:

  • The Spectrum of Learning model is an approach to training that uses multiple modalities including; an online module (eLearning), face to face classroom delivery, coaching (field-based or via webinar), and mobile learning “apps” (mLearning) to enhance workers’ knowledge, awareness, skills and abilities.
  • The Spectrum model contends that Transfer of Learning (TOL) is greater with this multi-modal training framework. Transfer of Learning (TOL) is the application of skills and knowledge learned in one context (the classroom, eLearning, etc.) and applied to another context (on the job).
  • Research shows that successful TOL will result in a higher level of performance and increased quality of services provided to clients. Research also shows that staff who perform better on the job are more motivated to stay on the job.
  • The model has been applied to training topics in both Child Welfare and Adult Protective Services. The model uses a series of phases to maximize learning. There is research to validate and support the various modalities that have been integrated into the Spectrum model and therefore the model is based in evidence based practice.

eLearning:
In module one, you will learn how to identify involuntary interventions and when their use is appropriate. Module two focuses on ethical issues that arise when employing involuntary case plans. Once you have determined the severity of the risk, the client’s ability to consent, and the urgency of the situation – and decided that involuntary intervention is warranted, how do you make sure you are doing so in an ethical manner? In module three, we look at all the information you need to collect and organize in order to make the case that an involuntary intervention is needed. These skills are especially important when you have to approach another agency, such as mental health or public guardian, to provide the intervention (1.5 CEs upon completion of 3-part eLearning).

There is a $45 registration fee for participants from outside of California.

Instructor-led training:
The Instructor-led portion of this training is a ½ day training designed to reinforce the information learned in the eLearning portion of the training.
