Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Academy

Since it was founded in 1996, the Academy for Professional Excellence has been committed to creating an inclusive environment where the sharing of perspectives, ideas, and experiences from our internal and external stakeholders is welcomed. We operated with a responsibility to embrace the various ways diversity strengthens our programs, our workforce and our communities. However, we recognized that it was not enough to strive for inclusion and diversity without focusing on achieving equity for all of our stakeholders.
 
In January 2020, the Academy for Professional Excellence took its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts to a higher level by engaging the organization in discussions that would pave the way for a new journey. We gathered as workgroups and committees to understand what was happening and shifts that needed to be made. We identified concepts that were core to what we believe in. We revised policies and procedures to be less biased and more equitable. And we collectively defined diversity, equity, and inclusion which gave us a grounding point that we are using today.
