Intended Audience: This training is designed for Child welfare workers, Tribal

Indian Child Welfare workers, educators, Independent Living workers and court staff

Intended Objectives:

• Recognize the current range of services for Tribal foster youth
• Understand how Federal, State and local funding can determine outcome measures
• Understand that tribal youth are specifically include in the Chafee Act
• Recognize the intent, purpose, and cultural components of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA)

Topics Include:

• A 2-day interactive training on Tribal culture
• The issues of grief and loss in the Native American community
• Case scenarios involving participants taking on the roles of clan members
• The “Indian Problem vs. Euro-American Problem”
• Review the purpose and intent of ICWA
• Understanding Native American core values and beliefs
