Foundations for Managers in Child Welfare, LA DCFS: Module Five – Maintaining Self-Care While Balancing Priorities & Resources

Intended Audience: Assistant Regional Managers, Regional Managers, Division Chiefs’ or CSA II and CSA III
Description of Course: In Person, foundational training for Managers
Intended Objectives:
- List signs & indicators of burnout & secondary traumatization
- Practice addressing safety & well-being strategies for self, and teach strategies to staff
- Develop a personal resiliency plan
- Review steps in thinking in a fiscally responsible manner in order to develop, monitor, and provide oversight to budgets
- Define outcome based management/contracting
- Identify departmental tools for measurement of performance and supporting staff resiliency
- Recognize current issues related to service and performance
- Practice developing individual and systemic strategies to address current organizational performance issues
Competency: Self-Reflection & Self-Care: Understanding the impact of vicarious trauma and developing tools to support self-care as a manager and on behalf of the staff
Financial & Technology Management and System Interaction: Strategies to support resources internal and external to the department to achieve best outcomes. Prepares, justifies, and/or administers the financial resources for program area; plans, administers, and monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies. Integrates technology into the workplace; develops strategies using new technology to manage and improve program effectiveness; understands the impact of technological changes on the organization.
