Trainer Biography
Apryl M. Amerson
DSW
Dr. Amerson began working with Riverside County in 2001, working in the hospital and clinic settings; she joined Children Services in 2014. Dr. Amerson currently serves as a Regional Manager for Riverside County Children and Family Services. In this role, she oversees the division’s Child Abuse hotline, Prevention Services and Mobile Strike Team. Before transitioning to the Child Abuse hotline, Dr. Amerson worked as an Operational Manager overseeing investigations in Hemet and San Jacinto. Dr. Amerson has extensive knowledge regarding investigative services, continuing services, mandated reporting laws and motivational interviewing.
When not working with Riverside County Dr. Amerson enjoys training new workers as well as consulting services for community focused agencies.
Dr. Amerson earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, from the University of Phoenix. She then earned her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California (USC) and her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Simmons University.
Ms. Amerson is passionate about addressing the marginalization of people of color in child welfare systems. Her passion projects include destigmatizing therapy in Black communities and normalizing therapy for Black individuals who desire to process childhood trauma.
