Family First Prevention Services Act Updates

As we have just passed the half-year mark since the start of the Family Prevention Services Act (FFPSA), CWDS continues to strive to meet our southern county’s needs. One of those efforts is the recent release of our eLearning, which aims to give Child Welfare staff at all levels an overview of FFPSA with a specific focus on Parts I and V. This eLearning is now available in the Child Welfare Training statewide learning management system (LMS), better known as CACWT

Additionally, CWDS has held two convenings this fiscal year. The first convening focused on bringing together Child Welfare staff across Southern California to begin conversations around early implementation. We are happy to see that much of the collaboration that began in the first convening is still ongoing today. The second convening focused on Part I, Prevention. Counties were provided the opportunity to invite community partners to the table to engage in early discussions about their Comprehensive Prevention Plan. CWDS plans to offer a third convening in June, which will focus on Part IV of the Act. Please keep an eye out for more information as it develops. Also, please feel free to reach out to our FFPSA lead if you have any questions, Nicole Heesen at nheesen@sdsu.edu.
