Staff Biography

Charlie Rodnuson, M.A.
CWDS Facilitator Supervisor

Charlie Rodnuson is a CWDS Facilitator Supervisor on the Workforce Management and Development Team, where he provides strength-based leadership and partners with staff on Service Provider recruitment, development, and evaluation. Charlie has previously served as a Practice Coach at the Academy for three years, serving both Imperial and Riverside County staff on practice and workforce development. Charlie’s background is in Higher Education as well as Mental Health, where he has worked in career advising and mental health therapy, and recently has worked on various specialized projects focused on Father Engagement as well as Staff Retention. Charlie is also the lead creator and host of the Academy i3 Podcast which is centered on experiences and conversations that impact the workforce. He obtained a BA in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine, and an MA in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy from Agrosy University, Orange. Outside of his role at the Academy, Charlie works as a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate, accumulating his licensure hours to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. In his spare time, Charlie likes to play board games, do Escape Rooms with friends, and take drives to picturesque nature locations while listening to music.

  1. When did you join the Academy? 
    I joined the Academy on October 2020 as a Practice Coach.
  2. Briefly describe your role and impact within the Academy. 
    My role allows me to work independently, and in partnership with Riverside and Imperial Counties, in coaching and workforce development services to public child welfare staff. I also deliver social worker core training on topics related to Cultural Humility, Father Engagement, Mental Health, Substance Use, and Intimate Partner Violence. I am humbled in my role in inspiring and impacting the workforce through training and coaching.
  3. What do you enjoy most about working at the Academy? 
    Without a doubt, it’s the people. Any chance I get to connect with them through Program Meetings or Academy events; I always walk away with my heart lifted.
  4. How has working at the Academy transformed your career and/or life? 
    Working at the Academy has completely changed the trajectory of my career and life. Having been in previous roles in Mental Health and Career Counseling/Coaching, I had no idea I was able to find a marriage of the two and utilize my strengths and skills in my current role. Additionally, I have been deeply inspired and impacted by brilliant and endearing folks at the Academy. The Academy has been a workplace where I truly feel honored as not only a staff member but fully as a person.
  5. What is a fun fact we should know about you? 
    I love playing board games and doing Escape Rooms. I have a collection of over 100+ board games and have completed about 20+ Escape Rooms.
  6. What are your Top 5 CliftonStrengths? 
    Positivity, Harmony, Empathy, Achiever, Discipline
  7. How would you describe your experience as the host of the Academy i3 Podcast? What do you hope to see in the future (in regard to topics, guest speakers, impact, etc.)? 
    It’s been a dream I couldn’t even imagine. I enjoy podcasting personally; however, I never thought I could be podcasting as part of my job. It’s been an honor and a joy to collaborate with my colleagues and folks in the community on the podcast. I’m thrilled that we get to offer the podcast as another learning medium for folks as well as have a platform where we can uplift impactful topics. I hope to continue to be part of the podcast’s growth in expanding workforce development topics and creating a series around clusters of topics with the impact that episodes can be shared in complement with some of our training to further promote the transfer of learning for our listeners.
