Training for Trainers’ Skill Development: Curriculum Design

Level: Advanced Practice – (Lineworker, Supervisor, Manager)

Credits: 6

Intended Audience: For experienced lineworkers, supervisors and managers who wish to develop training skills

Intended Objectives:

  • Identify at least three theories of curriculum design
  • Identify one curriculum design approach for a trainer to develop when planning to deliver training on the trainer’s subject matter expertise
  • Identify 4 considerations when selecting multimedia and designing handouts for a curriculum
  • Identify 3 considerations when designing or delivering a standardized curriculum
  • Demonstrate the use of one theory in designing a curriculum
  • Demonstrate writing three learning objectives: one of knowledge, one of skill, one of value.
  • Demonstrate designing at least one of the following: an activity for one, a pair, a triad, a small group, or a large group.

Topics Include:

  • Theories of curriculum design
  • The ADDIE model of design
  • Use of research
  • Sequencing of content for training
  • Use of multimedia
  • Designing handouts for training
  • Considerations when designing training activities for the individual participant as well as various sizes of groups
  • Considerations when designing or delivering standardized curriculum
