Trainer Biography
Rachel Swaykos, MSW
Ms. Swaykos received her BS in Psychology from Virginia Tech in 2005 and her MSW from San Diego State University in 2008. While in school, Ms. Swaykos gained experience with youth in the Child Welfare System working in group homes for youth with high behavioral and developmental needs as well as youth who were in dually involved in the Chile Welfare and Juvenile Justice systems.
In 2008, she joined the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, Child Welfare Services division. Ms. Swaykos has experience working in the areas of Emergency Response, Court Intervention, Family Reunification, and Family Maintenance. In addition to working one on one with families, Ms. Swaykos was a TDM facilitator helping working engage teams and families in decision making for themselves and their children.
With 8 years experience working directly with youth and families, Ms. Swaykos transitioned to Child Welfare administration working first in the Continuous Quality Improvement unit doing federal and local case reviews to identify best practices and areas for growth in practice.
Ms. Swaykos is currently a Policy Analyst working on CCR and legislation focus areas. Over the past two years, Ms. Swaykos has worked within State workgroups on the creation and implementation of CCR initiatives including: Level of Care (LOC), Child and Family Teams (CFTs), Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC), and Intensive Services Foster Care (ISFC).
