Trainer Biography
Kathryn Wieand, MSW
Ms. Wieand received her BA in psychology from University of California, Santa Barbara in 1997, and her MSW from San Diego State University in 2010.
Ms. Wieand has over 17 years working with at-risk youth and their families. Ms. Wieand began her career 1997 working with Autistic Youth at Devereux California in Santa Barbara. When she returned home to San Diego she continued to work with youth residing in group homes. After a short detour into the financial industry, Ms. Wieand returned to her passion of social work.
In 2001, Ms. Wieand began working for Child Welfare Services in San Diego County, where she has worked with many programs including the Medically Fragile Unit, Emergency Response and Continuing Services, and the Polinsky Children’s Center. After completing her MSW, Ms. Wieand worked with Dependency Legal Group, acting as an Investigator for Minor’s Counsel. Ms. Wieand then returned to County Service as a caseworker and then as a supervisor for San Diego’s Child Abuse Hotline. In this role, Ms. Wieand provided supervision to the afterhours standby workers. Ms. Wieand moved into her current role as Training Supervisor in December 2012.
