Amy Waszak
APSWI Curriculum Development Specialist

Amy is a Curriculum Development Specialist for the Adult Protective Services Workforce Innovations (APSWI) program. APSWI provides competency-based multidisciplinary training to Adult Protective Services professionals and their partners.
Amy has 23 years of experience with Adult Protective Services (APS) for the County of San Diego, both as a Case Manager and Supervisor, with an emphasis on training and coaching. Amy has experience in Social Services working with both elderly and dependent adults. As a licensed mental health clinician, she developed and grew trauma informed practices within her work with APS and as a therapist for military veterans. Amy served as a Clinical Supervisor for APS staff pursuing professional licensure. Amy also worked periodically as a trainer for APSWI, doing both in-person and virtual instructor led trainings for APS staff in several regions of Southern California. Amy also has been involved with the APSWI Supervisor Curriculum Advisory Committee.

When did you join the Academy, and what was your position when you first joined?
I joined the Academy in May 2022 as APSWI’s Curriculum Development Specialist.
How has working at the Academy revolutionized your career and/or life?
Working at the Academy has given me a better work/life balance, and has allowed me to continue to contribute to the field of APS in a meaningful way.
What do you enjoy the most about working at the Academy?
I enjoy the autonomy, the freedom to do what I do best, my awesome and supportive team, and the Academy’s values. I also love that the Academy supports my personal and professional growth.
What is a fun fact you would like us to know about you?
My dream is to live in a cabin the woods and have a guest suite there for co-workers and family and friends to visit and unwind/unplug in nature.
