Stipend Recipient's Biography
Anais’ professional background includes a long history of work with older adults. She worked in a customer service role in a retirement community for many years before returning to school to pursue my Master’s in Social Work at San Diego State University. My internships thus far in the program include one year at Potiker Family Senior Residence, a supportive housing complex for low income seniors in downtown San Diego, and a summer internship at Ban Bang Kae Social Welfare Development Center for Older Persons, a government funded housing and activity center for low income aging adults in Bangkok, Thailand.
As a part of HRSA GWEP Alzheimer’s MSW Stipend Program, her current internship placement is at Light Bridge Hospice, a hospice and palliative care organization with special education and programming for veterans, Jewish families and patients with Alzheimer’s disease. The mission of the organization is to ‘assist patients in moving through the last stages of life with grace, strength and hope.’ In this internship she will be responsible for ongoing assessments, communication with families and caregivers, referrals for appropriate resources, advocacy, information and education on Medicare, Medical, SSI, Living Wills, Advanced Directives and Power of Attorney, discharge planning, symptom control, integrative therapies, and bereavement services. She will have opportunities to learn about and work directly with aging adults and patients with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as with their caregivers and families. She is very much looking forward to this year!
