Lucia Acevedo, MA
As a San Diego native, it is here that I have been working within the fields of education, outreach, and advocacy for more than fifteen years. My experience ranges from working with youth at the middle and high school level and extending into higher education in my work with students at the community college and university level. I am committed to supporting the needs of underrepresented and underserved youth through helping them to achieve their academic and social emotional needs.
My passion for working with students, particularly adolescents stems from my work experience, specialized training, educational background and personal life experience. I have a Masters of Arts in Education with a concentration in Multicultural Counseling from the San Diego State University (SDSU) Community-Based Block Program (CBB). In addition, I have provided direct counseling and advising services to students for the past ten years starting with my position as an adjunct faculty at SDSU with the CBB program post-graduation and into my employment with SAY San Diego where I have been working for ten years. Since my time with SAY I have been focused on the needs of adolescents in partnership with different San Diego Unified School District schools running social emotional groups, creating opportunities for leadership development , and building partners with community organizations in support of young people’s needs. Currently, I hold a position as Director of the Crawford Community Connection, a school-based family resource center. It is here that I have been integral in the success of the center’s growth and development focusing on relationship building with community partners integrating services to best serve the needs of students and families in the community we are located. I am dedicated to helping realize the educational goals and social emotion needs of students that my experience has given me the knowledge and expertise to achieve.
I am an advocate of providing students with the support and guidance they need to achieve their educational and social and emotional goals. In my extensive counseling, advising, and community building experience coupled with my educational background and personal experience that has provided me with the skills I need to participate in strengthening the lives of students and families helping them to realize their full potential as contributing member of society.
