Khara Rice, LMFT
My name is Khara Rice and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my undergraduate degree in Child Development and then my Master’s degree in Counseling from Cal State Fullerton. I work at Sharp Mesa Vista Psychiatric Hospital and have been the Lead for the Dual Diagnosis Recovery Outpatient Program there for the last 7 years. The Dual Diagnosis program specializes in the treatment of both mental illness and co-morbid substance abuse, which also includes our Trauma program for PTSD as well as an opiate dependence program. I have been treating patients with co-occurring disorders since 2006 and previously worked as a therapist in a residential rehabilitation setting, here in San Diego that specialized in the treatment of not only addiction but patients experiencing chronic pain and opiate dependence.
Prior to working in addiction and dual diagnosis, I spent 7 years counseling children residing in the group home setting, who struggled with severe emotional disturbance and abuse histories.
I have been a guest teacher at USD and am currently a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in the field of addiction and dual diagnosis.
