Lineworker Core

CWDS’s Lineworker Core Training is a multi-modality training delivered over several weeks encompassing, among other topics, CalSWEC standardized training. Classes range from half to multi-day trainings, as well as elearnings and field activities.

CWDS offers this Lineworker Core course in various counties we serve, delivered in a customized way to meet the needs of a particular county (if only one county is being trained).

The classes in this course are based on competencies developed by the California Social Work Education Center (CalSWEC) and are intended for new child welfare services staff or staff transitioning into new job responsibilities. Trainings are facilitated by a number of different experts in the field of child welfare services who use a variety of teaching methods appropriate to an adult, professional audience.

Lineworker Core Training underwent a full-scale statewide revision called Common Core 3.0 beginning in January of 2016 with full implementation in early 2017. To learn more about Common Core 3.0, please visit our Common Core 3.0 webpage.

Assessing for Key Child Welfare Issues – CORE 3.0 – Classroom

This course is activity based and introduces trainees to challenges related to assessing families who are experiencing substance abuse, mental health, and/ or intimate partner violence (IPV).

Child Maltreatment Identification CORE 3.0 eLearning

This is an interactive eLearning course that focuses on identifying child physical abuse, neglect, emotional abuse and sexual abuse and exploitation.

Child Maltreatment Identification Skills Lab – Core 3.0 – Classroom

This course is intended to be an activity based skill building exercise. It offers trainer facilitated vignette activities used to provide a framework for identifying child maltreatment, using direct observation, interview and consultation.

Completing Assessment Tools CORE 3.0 – Field Activity

Trainees will complete the Structured Decision Making (SDM) Safety Assessment or SDM Reunification Safety Assessment and the SDM Risk Assessment or SDM Risk Assessments tools using the SDM Policy and Procedure Manual, based on information gathered from the family or through consultation with the case carrying social worker.

Critical Thinking and Assessment CORE 3.0 – Classroom

Using lecture, case vignettes and small and large group activities, this course focuses on critical thinking activities that link critical thinking to assessment.

This is an interactive eLearning course which focuses on child developmental milestones, how culture affects these milestones, developmental problems and service interventions.

Safety and Risk in Teams – CORE 3.0 – Field Activity

Working closely with a field advisor, this course offers the trainee an opportunity to participate in a team meeting with a family on his/her caseload. This may include a TDM, safety mapping, Child Family Team meeting, or any other meeting that brings the family together with the child welfare agency to discuss safety and safety planning. At the conclusion of the meeting, the trainee will have participated in developing a plan that ensures safety for the child/youth.

SDM Assessment Skills Lab – Core 3.0 – Classroom

This course provides skills practice using critical thinking skills in child welfare assessment and incorporates the use of the Structured Decision Making (SDM) assessment system as a tool for assessing safety, risk, protective capacity, priority strengths and priority needs.

Overview of Assessment Procedures Part 1 – CORE 3.0 eLearning

This is an interactive eLearning course which introduces the concepts of safety and risk assessment and structured decision making (SDM), addresses how and when assessment must occur and, also, decision points associated with assessment tools.

This is an interactive eLearning course which provides an overview of the Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools, their purpose and when to use them. Developing safety plans in a team setting will, also, be discussed as well as strategies for incorporating community supports.
