Description of Course: Attendees can expect to gain assessment and intervention skills useful when performing casework with dual diagnosis clients.

Intended Objectives:

The number of cases involving Substance Abuse and Co-Occurring Mental Disorders is increasing.  Social Workers often find such cases heart breaking, frustrating and time consuming. This training, will help to gain assessment and intervention skills useful when performing casework with dual diagnosis clients.  The knowledge and skills provided will lead to better outcomes for clients while decreasing the frustration associated with managing these cases. This full day, advanced training provides evidence based practice information with inter-active exercises designed to make the day interesting and useful.  The training will enable participants to practice skills useful during the assessment and interventions with dual diagnosed individuals and families.

• Summarize the Continuum of Substance Use Disorders
• Develop an understanding of the criteria used to separate Substance Abuse issues from Mental Disorders
• Learn tips for self-care.
• Structure addiction case plans and referrals according various levels of severity
• Examine the relationships between Substance Abuse and Diminished Mental Capacity
• Gain practice principles for initial field interventions with dual diagnosis clients
