Structured Decision Making T4T

Level: Advanced Practice – Supervisor, Manager, Trainers

Credits: 18

Intended Audience: Individuals who will provide introductory SDM training and have not previously participated in this T4T

Description of Course: This course is designed for academy-based or county-based trainers who will provide introductory training on the use of SDM assessments. The SDM course itself is a two-day course that covers background on SDM, instructions on the use of each SDM assessment, and practice in small groups applying definitions to completion of SDM assessments. This T4T is three days long and includes introduction to the trainer manual, discussion of frequently encountered questions and issues in training, and introduction to resources available to SDM trainers. This curriculum will be the traditional SDM curriculum, with minor modifications to make links to emerging practices such as Safety Organized Practice. (Current SDM trainers will have access to a “track changes” version of the curriculum and may choose to use the updated version). Note that this is not intended to be a full-scale integration of practice and SDM.

  • Know resources to support quality introductory training on SDM.

Topics Include:

  • Overview of SDM
  • Review of each of the SDM tools
  • Review of trainer manual
