Mental Illness and Suicide Risk Implications for Child Safety and Well Being

Intended Audience: Line Workers, who are interested in increasing their knowledge to more effectively work with clients who are mentally ill and/or suicidal

Intended Objectives:

• Trainees will review the four mental illness diagnoses most often associated with suicide risk.
• Trainees will identify the implications of parental mental illness on the safety and well-being of children.
• Trainee will be able to describe and discuss all elements of a suicide assessment.

Topics include:

• DSM IV and decision making trees
• Personality Disorders
• Depression and Suicide Risk
• Application of Suicide Assessment
