Introduction to Safety Organized Practice eLearning

Intended Audience: This course is intended for line workers, leadership, support staff, and partner organizations.

Description of Course: This 90-minute self-paced module provides an introduction to basic concepts of Safety Organized Practice (SOP) as it relates to various roles throughout the Child Welfare System. Practice related to engaging families in safety, risk, and protective capacities throughout all interactions with Child Welfare staff levels.

Intended Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the relationship between California’s Core Practice Model and SOP
  • Identify the foundational concepts and components of SOP
  • Describe tools and practices the support SOP
  • Identify ways that you can integrate SOP into your practice
  • Identify two changes you will make towards implementing SOP

Topics Include:

  • The three core objectives that are the foundation to SOP
  • Introduction to trauma informed practice
  • Conducting a Balanced and Rigorous Assessment
  • Using a common language and operational definitions
  • Tools to elicit the Voice of the Child
  • Solution-Focused Questions and Safety Mapping
  • Harm and Danger Statements and Safety Goals
  • Creating and Utilizing Safety Networks
