DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: MAINTAINING RIGOR WHEN PARTNERING WITH FAMILIES
Level: Advanced Practice
Credits: 6
Intended Audience: Lineworker, Supervisor, Manager
Description of Course: Domestic violence can have an impact on the physical and emotional safety of the children and the functioning of the entire family. This hands-on training will engage participants in critical thinking about their practice when there is a perpetrator pattern of coercion, control and violence. It can be a challenge to hold the perpetrator accountable while keeping the children safe and together with the survivor.
Participants will be introduced to Safe and Together concepts to increase their proficiency in engaging domestic violence survivors using solution focused, safety organizing strategies. Trainers will share and model use of the SOP DV Timeline. It’s a tool created by Luck P Luckey to engage the survivor in wanting to partner with the agency and jointly make a balanced assessment of safety and danger. Participants will practice each step of the timeline process on a case scenario.
Intended Objectives:
- Increase understanding of the core principles and critical components of the Safe and Together Model to build better outcomes for families and the child welfare system
- Learn how to identify perpetrator patterns to inform Structured Decision Making (SDM) assessments
- Make linkages to Safety Organized Practice (SOP)
- Be introduced to the SOP DV Timeline tool used when interviewing for danger and safety
- Using all these practice tools together to create survivor and child centered safety and case plans
