Intended Audience: This course is intended for Child Welfare social workers,supervisors and managers as well as Behavioral Health Services staff and contractors
who are interested in learning about the Katie A. lawsuit and Core Practice Model

Description of Course: This eLearning course provides an overview of the Katie A. lawsuit, precipitating events, settlement, and resulting Core Practice Model (CPM). The course gives an introduction and overview to the components, values and principles of the core practice model as well as the criteria for being included in the subclass and class. Finally, the course reviews Intensive Care Coordinator and In Home Based Services.

Intended Objectives:

  • Review the main components of the Katie A lawsuit including precipitating events, timeframes, and settlement agreement
  • Identify the core values and principles of the Core Practice Model
  • Review of Intensive Care Coordination (ICC) and In Home-Based Services (IHBS)
  • Identify children who are a part of the sub class

Topics Include:

  • Katie A. lawsuit and precipitating events
  • Core values and principles of the CPM
  • Distinction between the class and subclass of children served by the CPM
  • Review of services provided by the CPM including ICC and IHBS
