Trainers Forum 2010: Conscious Use of Self in the Training Room

Level: Beginning, Advanced Practice – Trainers

Credits: 1.5

Intended Audience: Trainers or Staff Development Officers

Intended Objectives:

  • Identify and discuss the pros and cons of trainers using self-disclosure, personal histories and professional stories
  • Identify at least two of the boundary quandaries of disclosure in the classroom
  • Review of the literature and discussion of experiences in a classroom setting
  • What experience tells us
  • Discussion of trainer guidelines for use in the classroom

Topics Include:

  • Self Disclosure and Use in a classroom setting
  • Self Assessment and Discussion with participants about self disclosure as a trainer
  • Development of guidelines for participants to use in the classroom around the use of self disclosure as a trainer
