Karen Yazzie-Meyer, CATC II, CTCS

My name is Karen Yazzie-Meyer, I am a Native American Navajo residing in North County San Diego. As a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor II (CATC II) and Certified Tobacco Cessation Specialist (CTCS) in the Behavioral Health field, I have an extensive background working with an at-risk multi-cultural Transitional Age Youth (TAY) and adult population for over 30 years. My experience varies from my current position as a Substance Abuse Counselor at Indian Health Council (IHC), Inc. with Indian Health Service (IHS), Employee Assistance Professional (EAP)for Department Of Labor (DOL) Job Corps Vocational Training Programs, supervisor and counselor at a co-occurring residential substance abuse treatment facility, and athletic coach and director for various recreational, gymnastics organizations and high school, in addition to working collaboratively with Child Welfare Services/CPS Indian Specialty Unit and local Probation Officers serving the Native American population. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to provide Cultural Competency training for CADRE and BHETA and hope to continue in the future.
