Tribal STAR

Tribal STAR(Successful Transitions to Adult Readiness) provides interdisciplinary training for providers who work with rural Native foster youth. Tribal STAR is a five year, federally funded program to develop a comprehensive, competency based, interdisciplinary curriculum and training program to provide current research and best practices in serving foster youth within the Tribal Community.

In addition, Tribal STAR will assist communities with technical assistance as these communities work to build collaborative partnerships to better serve Tribal foster youth.

The goal of Tribal STAR is to deliver curricula to enhance frontline and supervisory staff, as well as MSW students’ capacity to provide effective child welfare services in rural Native American communities across the State of California.

The training is open to social workers, Tribal Indian Child Welfare workers, educators, Independent Living workers, probation officers, case managers, court agency staff, and Tribal youth service providers.

Topic areas covered in the training include: Tribal values & culture, collaboration, youth development philosophy, assessment, and ways to address the needs of Native American foster youth.
